  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

I honestly ran this after I posted about the Crater looking like AI. And I used a browser that’s never looked at the Crater. That browser had been used to create the Scout images I posted in the Gemini thread.

The Jeep Recon and the Hyundai Crater both look like someone fed a generative AI a prompt of, “design an off-road SUV.” The Jeep prompter’s cookies were filled with images of every other SUV from the past two decades. It feels like they just took things from every SUV and added the seven slots...

A small herd of elk who seem to have been separated from the larger herd came by this morning. Here are a couple of photos through the snow. This little bull is still losing velvet from the antlers.

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

I added Vulcan to our list of destinations. We’ve cut out some of eastern Alberta and all of Saskatchewan and will likely head to Billings, MT to visit with friends instead. Vulcan is on the drive from Calgary to Great Falls, so it’s perfect. It even has a charger at the Star Trek visitor...

Well, for VW. We discussed this back in September. PowerCo’s Canadian plant was never going to be ready before Scout was supposed to start production, and probably not even before Scout was delivering product...

    Software Features

When a vehicle that is meant to be used on a public-road is shut off (through whatever mechanism), and then later restarted (through whatever mechanism), it should default to public-road driving mode, including some reasonable default for mirror placement, reasonable set of cameras that are...

Ford solves the entry-exit issue for different profiles by allowing a setting for “easy enter/exit.” This shifts the driver’s seat back when the vehicle is shut off. Obviously this is only available for trims with electric seats. I won’t buy a work/off-road vehicle that doesn’t have a positive...

    Plug in hybrid.

It’s my guess that the 50% value was chosen because of FUD still making its way into battery health discussions. Fact: There are a lot of research articles explaining that “best” state of charge to store (for months) a lithium battery is at around 50% SOC. FUD: Don’t charge your battery...

Understanding the “why” behind any decision made by Stellantis in the past five years is, in my opinion, an exercise in frustration. Before going any further, I should note that very little that has come out of Stellantis is reliable. The information above came from an engineering team almost a...

There’s some confusion about the RAMCharger EREV. The Forbes article doesn’t clear it up, and adds some misconceptions and other misunderstandings of EVs and EREVs. As currently planned, the RAM EREV will have three modes: Electric+ All-electric until the battery is depleted, at which time...

You can find those exact keychains on Alibaba (without the laser “engraving”), but you likely don’t have time to get it and have it “engraved" before the end of the year. I would drill a small hole in the existing metal clasp and put a new ring in it. That way it would be a repair and refresh...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I made these maps last spring from data that’s about a year old now. The only areas I would have to think about planning for charging options is around MT, ND, SD, and WY and the north-eastern part of Nevada. Locations of DCFC charging stations in the United States. The size of the circle...

Apparently now there’s evidence that not only is Ford not cancelling the Lightning, they’re working on a Gen-2 of it. The whiplash one could get from reading these rumor sites is grounds for a lawsuit. Or at least a neck brace...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

They’re likely to get to 10k towing, but it will likely ONLY be available on the BEV. The EREV is unlikely to reach 10k towing capacity for a variety of physical reasons.

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

I had an awful feeling a few days ago when I realized you hadn’t posted much lately. I’m glad you’re better than I had worried. I hope you recover quickly and fully.

Oh, good, another 12-year-old’s bored-in-math-class sketch of a “bad-ass” truck. I hope more sensible heads prevail when it gets to the design department.

I teach a couple of workshops about changing cultural values within a workplace or team. There’s a model for change adoption that seems to be fairly robust across many different contexts. One of its names is the “Diffusion of Ideas.” It’s been around a long time, and one popular iteration of...
