  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

One Giant Leap Into the World of EV Ownership

Here’s a brief review I wrote elsewhere. The cover we bought was stitched custom for a Mustang Mach-E, but they make covers for several vehicles. Late in the 2021 winter season we bought a cheap charge port cover from Amazon. I don't remember the brand, but it was ineffective and we tossed it...

One Giant Leap Into the World of EV Ownership

I’ve only seen it once. A moth had decided to hide in the warm charge plug of the charger. I squashed it when plugging into my truck. Kinda gross. I suspect it’s not a high-probability event since I’ve only seen it that once. But I’m trying to make it a habit to look down the plug before...

New York state is (weakly) looking out of automobile customers and working to ban some nonsense subscriptions. "No manufacturer, dealer, or agent of a manufacturer or dealer shall offer to a consumer a subscription service for any motor vehicle feature that: (1) utilizes components and...

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

The first time we experienced it was just amazing. I thought we’d become rich! :ROFLMAO: I didn’t have to trudge out to the car in the freezing, wet cold to warm it up!

It’s a wonderful thing to know I get to temporarily live in this world with such unbothered creatures.

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

I should add: The EPA uses sophisticated physics models to correct for not being on an outdoor track. This makes it a more fair test to the automobile manufacturers. If they didn’t, some manufacturers might choose to delay the release of their vehicle until they can run the test during a...

One Giant Leap Into the World of EV Ownership

Looks great! One hint coming from experience: Moths and other critters love the dark hidey space in that holster/plug. Check it every time you go to plug in so you don’t squish a critter into your vehicle’s charge port...

And remember that instead of refueling 25 minutes from home, you get to refuel at home with either the BEV (back up to 350 miles range) or the Harvester (up to 150 miles range).

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

No. It's a mix of city (55%, stop and go) and "highway" (45%, at 65 mph) driving. It's a poorly-designed test that was very clearly influenced by the auto manufacturers. It's done in a laboratory and oesn't include air resistance. Manufacturers are also given the option to reduce the final range...

    Off-topic stuff…

The most similar vehicle to your Wrangler that I've driven in the past two decades in the snow is a TRD Off-Road 4WD Tacoma with dedicated snow tires. The Lightning (bigger, heavier, street tires) performs better in the snow than the Tacoma ever did. Traction control in an EV can be quite a...

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

I do hope people who buy the Harvester are aware that the range while towing on gas only will probably be no better than 175 miles, which isn’t much better than the 150 miles range of the BEV while towing.* Yes, for some trips the refueling options will be more plentiful for gas. *Nobody will...

This is great! Also, of note is the VWAG is the top revenue auto maker in the world. Toyota is a close second. They trade the top spot. Nobody else is close (like the third place in revenue is $100B lower). VWAG has $31B in free liquidity, after the nonsense from the tariffs. There is nobody...

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

I'm curious if the almost 100 miles more projected range of the Scout compared with the GTPE (260 miles) really doesn't cover 99% of your needs? I've only driven through Texas once and it was in my Mustang Mach-E CA Rt-1 (312 miles EPA). I took farm roads from Amarillo to DFW then highways to...

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

Yeah, this is basically true. It does depend on the length of the trip. If you’re only going <=~400 miles, then 80 mph vs 73 mph doesn’t matter much either way for time savings; you’ll have to stop once and if you need to recharge to the same 80%, you save a little bit by going faster, but I...

I have ALL of the tools, all of the ability, and none of the desire to do my own oil changes or other ICE maintenance on my diesel tractor. I was supposed to change the oil 50 hours ago and…probably won’t for another 50 hours of use. I didn’t do my own oil changes in our last three or four ICE...

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

There are a fair number of Lightning owners who struggle to get 2.0 miles/kWh, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to plan for 2.0 on the Terra. I will say a 240 mile road trip in a 350 mile nominal truck is something I never even begin to worry about. We regularly take a freeway-based 250 mile...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

Yep. We don't do as much wood cutting as we used to, so I'm not rushing to replace the chainsaw. And the tractor... Well, we'll see. Every time I fire it up I get the urge to replace the diesel with electric. But I need a lot more space in my workshop before I'll pull the engine.

I get car sick pretty easily, but the lack of noises hasn’t caused any additional car sickness for me.

I much prefer the Mustang with all its fake noises off. I don’t even know if the Lightning has fake noises. If it does, they're off by default. I prefer the quiet. That said, until you get used to it, the road noise sounds a lot louder than before because many of the vehicle noises have been...
