  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Mapping the Distance From DCFCs

Definitely. I’ll create some zooms for those. I don’t think the 80 km (50 mile) isodistances are especially useful for considering reachability in a vehicle like the Scout; this map was more of a proof of concept. My compute system has been running for several days to produce the 240 km (150...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

Agreed. The point of all that math was to show it could be done with L1. The marginally higher cost of L2, with the added benefit of higher efficiency of L2 charging over L1 charging (lower relative overhead of running the electronics, lower resistance in the larger wires, etc) means in the...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

Several brands were working on them. But I haven’t seen much movement lately. Kubota had a nice-looking one, but I believe it’s only available in the EU. And I can’t afford the bigger ones most brands have been developing. I need a ~25 HP-sized tractor for my purposes (the one I have is the...

    What was your first job?

First under-the-table jobs, paid in peanuts, were doing plumbing/electrical/roofing/construction/mechanic work. I started those at age 6 for my father and sometimes my brother. They dragged me along to their odd jobs whenever they needed someone small to fit into the tight spaces: plumbing under...

    Mapping the Distance From DCFCs

Yeah. Have to build the data first… :)

I am also happy to take reasonable requests to zoom into an area and post a much higher-resolution map.

Eventually I’ll put these somewhere as interactive web maps and/or downloadable GIS packages.

    Mapping the Distance From DCFCs

I’ve posted versions of these maps elsewhere, but I had a little bit of time to write some new code and map out the isodistance maps from each DCFC in the US and Canada (the only regions for which I have data—I know I could pull other data, but these were easy). Previously I just used a radius...

    Outlet watts

We don’t know yet. The Lightning has two power inverter options: Standard is 2.4 kW maximum to all outlets in the frunk and cabin. all outlets are 120 volts, 15 amps The Pro Power Onboard option adds a second inverter that allows up to 7.2 kW. The outlets are in the bed. a 240 volt, 30 Amp...

5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

I thought I saw something from a SM employee on here recently that the Harvester would be forward of the rear axle with the battery shifted forward and the fuel tank shifted to the rear. But I could easily could be misremembering or misinterpreting.

5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

As @BeerParty notes, they have done some geometry adjustments and given that it sounds like they’ve decided to put the Harvester forward of the rear axle, that pretty much solves the issue of tongue weight. The next issue is thermal management. My speculation: They may have to lose a bit of...

Scout Concepts At LA Auto Show, November 21-30, 2025

There’s a combination of misspeaking, mishearing, rumor-mongering, and these days the automotive news is flooded with ai-written slop. Just today there was an “article” about a non-existent class-action lawsuit against Ford for a thing that never happened. But a thing similar had been...

    Off-topic stuff…

Yeah. I’ve experienced it. It’s an entirely new driving experience. Not only can they do corrections/adjustments in milliseconds, they can do it for each motor independently. That includes making an adjustment not just in braking and the speed the motor spins, but also in the direction the...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Exactly. In my low-efficiency Lighting, I can get around 84 miles with 33.7 kWh of energy on the highway. Around town, I can get about 135 miles. The EPA rating is 70 mpg-equivalent, including charging losses.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

The difference is that a 33.7 kWh battery can last ~30 years and can be recharged via solar, wind, or other sources that don’t require the burning of fossil fuels. And afterward, the lithium and other cathode materials can be recycled at ~99% efficiency. And, at least for EVs, the efficiency of...
