  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

How is everyone supposed to know you’re ready to run away from trouble if you don’t put all your gear on the outside of your truck?

Yeah. I’ll cut any vehicle with that kind of garbage off of my list of options. The problem is that machine learning is an incredibly valuable tool for this kind of use. But I don’t trust the AI industry not to invade my privacy even more than is already happening. It’s sad. We could have...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

It takes years to develop something new, especially in massive companies with no history of building the new technology. The iPhone took 20 years to bring to market in an industry much, much less conservative.

Traveler vs. Terra - Targeted Technical Questions

I found what was said. I didn’t interpret that as “there will be a larger battery in the Terra,” but rather, “we have options with the Terra.” That might mean that at some point in the future there will be an Extended or Max or Extra or Survey battery size offered for the Terra that’s not...

    Harvester Battery Size

Probably the BEV will have 120-130 kWh and the Harvester will have 60-70 kWh. For practical application, you can also compare with existing options. The 2025 Lightning has the following: ModelBattery size (kWh)EPA Range (miles)EPA Driving Efficiency (miles/kWh) Pro982402.45...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

All of this. By the end of the calendar year, we’ll have done 80,000 miles in our EVs. And we’re solidly in the middle of the pack of EV driving distances. At least 50% of our miles have been road tripping long (>450 miles one way) road trips. With the experiences over the past years, there has...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I would consider a Nesher tractor, but it uses AGM and there are two major issues I have with that. First is charge time: AGM shouldn’t be charged at faster than about 0.3C, but LFP can be charged at higher rates. This matters because an AGM battery with 14 kWh would take a minimum of 14*0.3 =...

I think a (slight) difference would be that Scout wouldn’t have to rely on VWAG to provide the vehicles. They could invest a few $M into purchasing a few thousand used EVs on auction and they would be the owners. It would bypass the dealership nonsense.

There are likely a billion legal hurdles to that all so established dealerships are guaranteed their monopolies instead of allowing legitimate competition.

I wonder if there’s some kind of program Scout Motors could implement where they started leasing used EVs to people who are in need of a new vehicle sooner than their production dates… They could buy up a few thousand gently-used EVs, lease them to reservation holders for 2-3 years and then take...

Traveler vs. Terra - Targeted Technical Questions

I don’t know for sure, and we won’t know until the full specs are released. This is just based on past experience of an “equivalent” SUV to Pickup comparison (Tacoma vs 4Runner, Tundra vs Sequoia, Silverado vs Suburban). For example (I know they’re not directly comparable but...) the 2025...

A pretty interesting attempt at beating the EV Cannonball Run record. Almost all Cannonball Run records of all types are done in heavily modified vehicles. The EV record is with an unmodified EV. This team took two batteries from crash-tested Rivians, hacked them to fit into the bed of a Rivian...

Traveler vs. Terra - Targeted Technical Questions

I can’t answer questions directly since I don’t work for Scout and even then I very likely couldn’t answer questions directly either... We don’t really know. But my guesses are: The Traveler will likely be slightly heavier than the Terra but they’ll have the same GVWR, based on having the...
