  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Plug in hybrid.

Luckily, the Harvester is a plug in hybrid :). Given, there are two categories of plug in hybrid (Serial, and Parallel). And the harvester is going to be a Serial plug in hybrid, which at the moment, is less common. The real difference is that in a serial plug in hybrid, the gas motor doesn't...

    12v Battery: Not an afterthought

One of the reasons I'm interested in it. And why I want something that has a physical key :). But yes, the "getting into the vehicle" part is greatly assisted by the "ability to open the doors". Something that electric door handles struggle to do, without electricity. The next part is just...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Yeah, that was right in my old stomping ground (used to ride past their buildings/through their parking lots as shortcuts sometimes). And you would see some weird stuff on the roads even then (~10 years ago). I bet now its even weirder :D. And wow, this is huge. I wonder if they think this will...

    12v Battery: Not an afterthought

Strangely, they removed that indicator on more recent models, and my Ioniq 9 doesn't have that same feature. I really hope that the 12v battery is one that will be charged while the vehicle is off. And that it is something that I can figure out without being locked out of (or into) the...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Yeah, I'd assume so. Make sure to keep an eye out for things for us :). I lived in that area for 4 years. This was before Waymo was a thing, but after google had started self driving research/testing on public roads. And we'd see them on the roads there really frequently (I lived about a mile...

    Off-topic stuff…

Oh, I hear you here. My last vehicle was starting to break down at an alarming pace. And I eventually moved on, even though after each repair it "should" have been ok. I hope you have better luck (the lifetime warranty thing there should help a lot. I was doing all my repairs myself in the...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

I will continue to espouse my dislike of dealerships. It took me almost 2 months, and something like 20 texts and calls to the dealership, to get them to send me my spare key (that they lost). I was worried they'd forget about me, and I'd be on the hook for a $$$ replacement if I ever wanted...

    Off-topic stuff…

Sadly, at over 100k miles, you're definitely into the "these sensors might start going" territory. Especially because the oxygen sensor already went. An AC line shouldn't do anything to prevent an engine from firing. And sounds like your lifetime warranty should come in clutch here. Rodent...

    Off-topic stuff…

So the engine is cranking, but not firing? But its only intermittent? And they say its a "communications delay"? To be honest, it could be any number of things. But I'd hope they at least check the basics? Do you have air, spark, and fuel? Fuel pumps can cause intermittent crank but not fire...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Lol, its true. Meanwhile, in the PNW :P. (did I mention I volunteered to scout for wet weather testing/cabanna roof testing???) Its like for a few years in a row, the NorthEast area of the US was making up increasingly aggressive names for winter storms. Like "Snowmaggeddon" and...

    Off-topic stuff…

My wife has been increasingly interested in the northern lights this last year or so. She keeps track of events and stuff like that. But surprisingly, today it was my daughter who noticed the pink sky, and asked my wife if it was the aurora. We saw really strong pink and green right around...

    Off-topic stuff…

Yeah, it’s been going bananas all night. The strongest I’ve ever seen, and plainly visible to the naked eye.

The Kia has the same drivetrain as the new Hyundai Palisade. And yes, it is located under the hood, because it is front engined. A 287 Horsepower NA 3.5L V6, or a the 329Horsepower hybrid system with a 2.5L Turbo Inline 4, 2 electric motors and a ~.8kwh battery. That said, the beltline/hood...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

Oh, before I forget. On the topic of bad backs, I totally forgot about this earlier. There is another type of hammock you should look into, its called a "bridge hammock". Its supposed to be the flattest laying hammock out there. It uses aluminum poles, catenary cut fabric, and geometry to keep...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

Wow, that must have been painful. And yes, most hammockers use something like UHMWPE rope (Dyneema, the stuff they use for synthetic winch cables/etc) as the suspension. 7/64in diameter will support 1600lbs, so plenty for the hammock. Same with the straps. You want Polyester, rather than Nylon...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

So, a few things here. Most people assume that when we sleep in hammocks, that we're sleeping along the centerline, which curves your back like a banana, and therefore that sleeping in the hammock must be painful. Which, it would be, if we did that. Also, most people only have experience with...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

Nice! I've heard great things about Hennesy hammocks, but I've not ever tried one. I've had critters move about around me before, but nothing as big as a moose. I'm sure that was wild. That "exposed" feeling isn't great, and is really amplified if you're sleeping without a tarp/covering and/or a...

I'm not even mad. Well played. Well played indeed.

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

Guilty. Former Scout here. If it helps, its got an underquilt (like the bottom half of a sleeping bag) with a few inches of down insulation in it under the hammock. So, its not a cold nights sleep at all. The weirdest part, was waking up when they were doing avalanche control on the other side...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

Ha, yes, obviously indoors would be bad. But parked at a trailhead, maybe not. I believe this was something that has been discussed before (although usually under the topic of home backup power). With all the cameras, and sensors, this seems doable. I'd also say just making it a manual option...
