  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

No. Most charging networks do require a free account if you use their app. Some charging networks have a minimum balance scam ($5 or $10, usually) to use their app, which is annoying. I think that will eventually go away.

Oh. I don’t worry about it. Most of the time I don’t plan my charging stops until no earlier than when I’m about the leave the charger I’ve just used.

The Mercedes Benz chargers are part of the Blue Oval network, but the only subnets within the Blue Oval network that support Plug & Charge are Tesla and Electrify America.

Most chargers have a credit card or NFC reader at the charger. Those that don’t will have an app requirement. When I travel to a new part of the country, I often have to install yet another app or two to use a charger that is part of a regional network. Part of NEVI was to require that any...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

I rarely consider only the dollars out of my bank account when looking at benefit vs cost. For example, my free time is much more valuable to me than my hourly take-home. A 30-minute diversion to refill the truck once a week was a huge inconvenience and I valued that time at least 3x my hourly...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Another thing to note: The infrastructure is going to improve. It’s already much better than it was in 2022 when we bought the Mustang. And by 2028 it will be even better. Especially with the redirection of NEVI funds to redder states for whatever reasons. Hamilton and Darby are both supposed...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I have recommended to several people to consider a hybrid instead of a BEV. Usually because of range anxiety. In your case, especially with the cold and winds in Montana and Wyoming, a hybrid would likely both meet your needs and better accommodate your particular habits better than a BEV. At...

59 Months (and counting) of EV driving...

Great question. We have a little over 75,000 miles combined on the two vehicles, at least 50% of which have been road tripping where a “road trip” is, to me, a trip that requires an overnight stay away from home. I would say at least 250 miles one-way (4 hours or so one-way). I used to do...

    FB find of the day

There are a bunch of options out there. Prices are all over the place, mostly depending on solar size, quality, appearance, etc.

I posted somewhere in one of the threads on this forum the dozens and dozens of obvious entries into any vehicle. People who think there’s a way to make a vehicle secure against theft don’t understand that every vehicle is easy to steal. The easiest way is just to pick it up with a tow truck...

I realize that Scout is probably not going to develop its own ADAS, as that’s a huge time and resources investment and there are companies out there that provide the service much more cheaply than they could likely do in-house. I do hope they go with one that uses LiDAR...

Aptera is probably going to end its operations. I’m not surprised at this development. Getting people to move to EV is difficult enough, asking them to take on a very different vehicle while doing so was always a long slog. Hopefully they invented some new technology that someone will consider...

Yeah. For most of our use-cases, the 3rd row isn’t useful, but the flexibility of a minivan is kind of the point. We would sometimes take out the third row seats and leave them home for a specific trip. But when we got home, we’d put them back in because the next trip might mean six or seven...

Motors, Control Arms and Ground Clearance

Your phone has a 6-axis solid-state accelerometer/gyroscope. Most vehicles built today have at least one and it’s used in all sorts of applications, most importantly in stability control. My Lightning has a user-information panel that shows the data. It can easily be tapped into for a huge...

I’m struggling to understand the point of the press release being published on Electrek. It sounds like this is an internal research vehicle/laboratory, not a production vehicle for sale. Or am I missing something? If my interpretation is correct, then are they ever going to sell the Elf to...

If you’re just going for appearance, drop the steel bumper and replace it with composite or aluminum. The non-functioning snorkel can be put anywhere, so put it where it looks good but doesn’t impact range much. The tires are the biggest issue. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a great...

When I used to run SAG for my friends’ races, we always took the Sienna. We could comfortably fit four people (three of whom could recline and nap), three bikes, two coolers, and all the soft gear.

Yeah. I used to begrudge people’s appearance choices, but I don’t care anymore. If someone wants their vehicle to look like it could survive the zombie apocalypse while all they do with it is sit in the after school pickup line, who am I to judge. The original 1965 Mustang was advertised to...
