  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Off-topic stuff…

This is one of the reasons I am so happy to be all-electric. I have far fewer interactions with a dealership.

    Off-topic stuff…

One of my and my buddy’s dreams was to do a Long Way kind of trip. We were going to trade up our cruisers/baggers for adventure bikes. He wanted a BMW, and I was looking at the Triumph, but also had several other bikes in mind. But then he went and had to move because costs are rising and jobs...

DM sent. It felt too long to post here. But I wouldn’t object if you did.

If you have any interest in esoteric science videos, Steve Mould is a good presenter to follow. And a few days ago he had one of his scientific theories tested on the International Space Station.

To be fair to the author, the headline is not their choice. I hated editors’ changing the headline/title of my articles when I wrote. The author said, "The XRT rounds out the family with rugged, off-road vibes.” To me, that’s very different from “looks like an off-roader.”

I clicked away after the first several seconds. I am not their audience either. And I’ve been a gearhead since I could pick up a screwdriver. I wish I had the patience for all the behind-the-scenes editing and etc. But your comment makes me wonder if I would need to spend too much time with...

The V-6 is the new V-8. Their customers don’t understand that the power of the engine doesn’t matter once it’s more than some minimum needed to meet the recharge rate necessary for their distance goal.

I can imagine how readily they switched platforms from RAM to Jeep. The 4xe was ready for an EREV transition: shrinking of the engine, growth of the battery, and use of the Wagoneer S motors. But I'll believe it's available when I see one on the streets. Stellantis has been pulling out of the...

Also, another RV based on an EV van, but much more expensive (they don’t have the economies of scale Coachmen has). https://www.groundedevs.com/

I was just reading about the Coachmen RVEX, which is based on the GM Brightdrop van. They’re targeting 270 miles range on a 174 kWh motive battery with a 1000 watt solar system and a 48 kWh house battery. With a 48 kWh house battery, one could easily use the house battery to add a good 24+ kWh...

Cold Climate Auxiliary Heat From Harvester ICE

There’s a virtual certainty there will be at least one heat pump for managing the battery and motor thermal environment; there’s no other way to do that efficiently. There’s a pretty high likelihood that there will also be another heat pump for cabin environment control. Resistive heating is...

Will harvester models be "maintenance free" like their EV siblings?

The maintenance schedule will be similar to every other hybrid. The closest examples will be the BMW i3 REX or the BYD Shark, which have 7.5k/6 mo to 10k/12 mo intervals. The two 4-cylinder engines built by VW in their Silao, Mexico plant, one of which may the source for the Harvester have...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Yeah, I hadn’t noticed that. It does look tight enough that a Harvester would make it no problem but a BEV would be more stressful.

    Bigger frunk

The radar should be mounted to a rigid part of the vehicle so its relative position doesn't have to be recalibrated all the time. And it must be at a certain height and pointed at a certain angle. The frunk lid will likely move too much to be useful for a radar system. It's normally in the...

The thing people don't seem to understand about why batteries are so cheap is that China subsidized their research and development. And we tack extra taxes on those cheap batteries. All the xenophobia and protectionism we have here hasn't protected us. It's made things more expensive and...

Here’s a decent explainer about EV battery technology and why solid-state is so difficult to bring to EVs. https://arstechnica.com/cars/2025/10/how-close-are-we-to-solid-state-batteries-for-electric-vehicles/
