  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Probably no to both. Depends on how much later or how much more money. Finding long trip ruralish charging is the biggest factor followed by total charging time over a long driving day. The Traveler tow limit might come in too. We can get by with 5000, will tow around 4300, but having 6000 or...

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

I would rather not pay a bunch of money for it, and won’t use it if provided. But not a deal breaker and I realize others might want it. Adaptive cruise control and lane centering, both whether towing or not, are big wants of mine. Lane centering when towing is a huge stress relief especially...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I have been and right now still am a solid “gotta have a Harvester for towing” person. But I’m keeping an open mind. Today’s State of Charge youtube video announced that Walmart plans to enter the DCFC market in a big way. Something to watch between now and making a final choice.

    Harvester towing

My understanding is that you still need to be able to handle the full trailer GVWR for the case where the trailer’s battery is depleted. You’ll get better range/mileage with the trailer’s help is all.

    Scout Deal Breakers

Yes, this is the big hammer approach that Jamie mentioned. The Ramcharger has a very specific target market, much different from Scout’s. They have explicitly said it is a solid work truck and can be used with (almost?) full capability with a truly dead (broken) battery. Hence the Pentastar...

    Scout Deal Breakers

I think you’re misunderstanding how it will probably work. Genset power will not literally go into and back out of the battery at the same time. It will go onto a common high power bus. If it is more than needed for propulsion the excess will go into the battery, nothing coming out of the...

    Scout Deal Breakers

You’re asking good questions but I disagree with your conclusions. In the Motor Trend interview Scott Keogh said 60 to 70-ish kWh for the Harvester battery, with 150 miles estimated non towing range. Let’s say that is at a steady 65 mph on level ground no head wind. You do 150 miles in 2.3...

    Scout Deal Breakers

Indeed. I think those of us on the outside need to chill a bit and realize the tough job the SM engineers have to find the right compromise. More tow capacity means a smaller genset to allow more rear axle payload. More Harvester battery range means a smaller gas tank and/or smaller genset, or...

    Scout Deal Breakers

BTW this also illustrates that if you plan to tow you can’t be too close to 100% SOC at the start of a downgrade. Regen braking is your “engine brake”, the power generated by the drive units can only go to the battery. If the battery is too full, no regen braking. Think of the old high school...

    Scout Deal Breakers

Yes we don’t know for sure. But I do have faith that SM has great engineers. The simple and obvious approach is to have a common high power DC bus. Power comes onto this bus from the battery, generator when running, or drive units with regen braking. Power comes off this bus to charge the...

Charge port at front, passenger side

It will be really interesting to see over the next three years if truck stops start getting pull through EV charging in the truck parking area. And if Tesla improves their network from 250 kW so that if we do have to unhitch at least we get 350 kW or better at more places. And if EA and others...

Great catch! There has been so much angst over the Jay Leno video, good to put it to rest. The timestamp is 15:50 for anyone watching it not through the bookmarked clip.

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

My understanding is that might be just software, not fantasy. There is no physical connection between the front and rear drive units, no need for a transfer case. With selectable front and rear lockers it seems like they just need to provide software for front only, rear only, or any split. Even...

What kind of tech do you expect enabled in the car or interface?

Drive modes as a collection of settings that can be tweaked and saved. Gauges, gauges, gauges, the more data options the better. Heat pump for HVAC integrated with thermal management for battery, drive units, Harvester. USB ports next to dash mount bars and in upper switch box for add on TPMS...

    Accessories Poll For Scouts

We have Traxda slider steps on our Honda Pilot that do what you want because the door goes all the way down. (A couple days later, I've learned this might be due to being unibody. Body on frame vehicles might have the door on top of the frame rail.)

    Accessories Poll For Scouts

Here are some of the things I would like to see. Not sure where these fall between “options”, Scout-installed at delivery, and buy and install ourselves. Scout branded traction mats with mounts to fit well to the roof rack/rails. Factory nano coating as the paint protection. Fitted mylar shades...

    Favorite Scout videos

Cyure and I had a side exchange in a separate thread about binging on Scout videos. Here is a collection of my favorites, I hope some are new to some folks, looking forward to suggestions from others. An interview with Scott Keogh from July 2023, talking about the early startup days...

Scout Motors Debuts Unlimited Range EV With Perpetual Motion Harvester

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about EVs in general and Scout in particular. He's a retired physics professor from UC Davis. He was very tempted to want to use one motor to drive the vehicle and the other to regen power in the hope of perpetual motion.

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

I was thinking more of comparing the BEV to the Silverado. Not sure what the BEV is but it is not LFP. The 9 minute video is just talking about the 0 to 100 charging curve. It is the only curve I’ve seen of a vehicle capable of 350 kW input.
