  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Motors, Control Arms and Ground Clearance

Okay, this thread needs to get back to the OP topic. The cost of a set of portal axles for the F-150 (not the Lightning) is $25k. I can only imagine what the cost would be for new development for a Lightning. https://werewolftech.com/en/catalog/portal-axles/portal-axles-for-ford-f-150...

Luxury features I would like to See

I would prefer to see CTIS as an aftermarket option. It's one of those things that really require a high degree of expertise and would likely add a lot of cost to the base vehicle if designed in-house. It also must (???) require specialized wheels?

Another technology that’s not good enough for me to replace the simple tech that was there before. Mirrors operate at light speed. Cameras and screens are slow enough that they can fail during the most important times: high speeds when you need to see something as close to instantly as...

This. LII+ is the right level of automation in a vehicle at this point. I’ll happily wait for more extreme automation until the underlying software technology is improved substantially and LIDAR or LIDAR-like systems are improved to the point that they can be integrated into the front, rear...

Luxury features I would like to See

I do a lot of travel between 7000 ft elevation and sea level and back. If I was being smart, I would adjust air pressure several times each way. A reliable CTIS would be great

Some of them will let you research the costs, but none of them have ever sent me a notice about changing costs.

This is subjective. Others will have different answers. Reasonable has been ~$0.30-$0.48 / kWh. Cheap is below that. Expensive is $0.50-$0.65/kWh. Outrageous is $0.66+/kWh Some states don’t allow non-utilities charging for electricity directly. In those states, they have to charge for the...

In the past we paid about $0.32/kWh for DCFC. Most places held to that price or less for quite a while. This trip we paid $0.66/kWh and $0.56/kWh. Some networks just have a very high flat rate; others have introduced surge pricing.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

That’s a pretty weird way to introduce yourself to the community. I don’t blindly adopt technology just because it’s new. I take the time to understand it. And I understand automated driving and route finding because I’ve developed software for it; I’ve worked with teams who have developed it...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

All automated driving is too dependent on other drivers behaving themselves. And too dependent on the very low numbers of miles automated systems have used for their training. People like to use the “million miles” driven by the various learning algorithms as if that’s a lot of miles. Humans in...

It’s been about six months since I last saw about $50 for this trip. The last couple of times it was a bit higher, but discounts are becoming less available and, strangely, with more options the prices are increasing, not decreasing. Last year we used mostly EA chargers. This past time we...

I just added up the cost of fast charging for our recent trip to LA and back. It used to be about $30-$50 for a round trip. This time it was $130, including charging at home and charging at the place I stayed. That’s not much better than the cost of gasoline, which for my Tacoma would have...

So do I. It’s just that sometimes I’ve forgotten to set it.

I get incredibly anxious when driving and experience too much stimulus. But self-driving adds to the anxiety for me. I've tried Ford Blue Cruise in stop-and-go freeway traffic in LA and it's way worse than just doing it myself. I've been a passenger in a brand-T car with FSD, and it was the...

I will not buy a vehicle that has had development time and money wasted on self-driving. When I don't want to drive, I take public transportation or fly. I do like pre-programmed "hands-free" stretches, but I only use it to loosen my grip on the wheel and relax for a few minutes.

    Off topic - small trailer for a 2018 4Runner

We cycle through tent camping, pop-up camping, hybrid hard-sided pop-out tent camping, hard-sided travel trailer camping, and then back to tent camping. We’ve never found a perfect fit for us. We’re still experimenting.

She could also look around for camping trailer rental options. In our area there are several companies that own various campers that you can rent for a few nights to tow to your favorite campsite. That might let her figure out what kind of trailer she would prefer.

    Off topic - small trailer for a 2018 4Runner

A 2018 4Runner has a towing capacity of no more than 5000 pounds with a braked trailer. I generally don’t tow more than 75%-80% of the tow capacity because I like the vehicle to stop when I tell it to stop and I don’t like to overtax the tow vehicle. That gives about 3500-4000 pounds of safe...

From a Tesla and Lightning Owner: Here’s What I Need to See from Scout

I just noticed this question. My truck’s adaptive matrix headlights work great in the city, with a couple of minor exceptions. In general, they can’t spot pedestrians or bicyclists—they operate by detecting incoming light, either white or red. If a pedestrian or bicyclist had a bright enough...
