  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Apparently MEK has a vinyl that sticks to aluminum panels (Bronco). They use some techno-babble “quantum” or “nano” or whatever; it’s just a reusable gel glue that’s been in use on all kinds of sticky pads for a few decades. If it gets too dirty it’s going to be difficult to wash clean and...

$800! If they were willing to print my company logo and a topo map on it, I might consider it (no, I wouldn’t), but $800! ‼️‼️‼️

I’ve never used wax or ceramic or detailed a vehicle I’ve owned, or I would probably have a different perspective on purposeful pinstriping.

My philosophy has been, “it’s going to happen and I have minimal control over that. If I make sure it happens on my terms, I can stop worrying.” I haven’t been worried about the Lightning, but it’s also the most expensive vehicle I’ve ever owned, so it’s been difficult for me to choose to...

So... My solution has, historically, been to take the truck out the first weekend after I’ve bought it and given it its inaugural pinstripe purposefully. Except I haven’t done that with the Lightning.

I’ve never looked into the magnetic trail armor. Seemed more like a gimmick than helpful. Where we are there’s lots of dust and grime that collects on vehicles and I’d expect it to work its way in between the vehicle and the armor and cause more damage than without. And I’d have to wash the...

I am very, very happy with the Lightning (except its size). If any brand released a 2015 Tacoma-sized or Gen3 4Runner-sized BEV pickup/SUV with ~320 miles range and for a reasonable price, we would probably find a way to trade the Lightning or the Mustang for it. I don’t need the 10k towing nor...

This is my biggest struggle with supposedly off-road-capable EVs these days. They’re way too wide. I’ve started bringing a DeWalt 60V chainsaw with extra batteries and charger when I know I’ll be in an area that might do more than a little pinstriping of my Lightning. But that doesn’t help in...

Ugh. Like in real life? ;) (just kidding. I teach various workshops so actually have to interact with people from time-to-time)

Solar is fantastic. Not only do we not have much of an electric bill, we have the option not to have an electric bill at all (right now we use the grid as an expensive battery but we may go off-grid entirely if they keep raising base fees). I am also able to be entirely protected from the greed...

IF you're only charging at home, and you have a reasonably low $ per kWh rate, you can save a ton with an EV. A typical gas car driven the average 14k miles a year costs about $1800/year just for fuel. A typical EV driven the average 14k miles a year, recharging at home only, costs about...

What a bizarre non-story. Not because the cost of fueling a vehicle isn’t interesting, but because he didn’t bother to actually track how much it cost to charge, just took an average as if he had charged at home. I can do that: Lightning: 21863 miles * $0.045/kWh / 2.5 miles/kWh = $393.53...

I’ve spouted this a dozen times already, but if I could buy the Comanche or any 1990s-sized pickup with a full-sized bed and a single-sized cab in a BEV configuration, I would do so in a heartbeat. I understand why the modern take on the pickup has been to turn it into a gender-affirming, but...

And the bed is the same size and far more useful in the Comanche (by nature of being easier to load and unload). And it has better than half the payload capacity for a truck that's 54% of the volume. I wish trucks these days were the same size as the Comanche or Toyota pickup.

    Mystery Scout?

That front dash makes me 95% sure it’s an 800. If I remember correctly, the 80 had a very different dash. And the 800 had the two-spoke steering wheel. Someone would have had to go through a lot of work to transform an 80 into what you have, but not that much work to install the windshield and...

    Mystery Scout?

All of the visual clues except the windshield and the hood bracket are that of an 800. I’ve heard of windshield+frame swaps from 80 to 800, but it’s never a perfect swap, so you might look for evidence of either leaks or non-factory work done around the windshield and/or where the bracket is...

Motors, Control Arms and Ground Clearance

I don't know. I doubt it, but have never really pursued it. I doubt there are any reliable, safe options for less than $10k.
