  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Scout Terra Debuts in New Silo Color and Retheme

Yeah. I made some assumptions in my post. Obviously this is a realm where the aftermarket will step in as soon as they find positive value in doing so. I wouldn’t add the ones shown to my vehicle because I’d want true sliders. But I have to admit that besides that sudden stop, they do look good.

    Harvester towing

That’s why so few people understand the parameter space on towing. It’s never as simple as, “it has a 10,000 pound towing capacity.”

Is the rail on the inside dash going to be functional? Will there be accessory mounts that can mount to it? Will it be optional?

Scout Terra Debuts in New Silo Color and Retheme

The “off-road side steps” aren’t my favorite. If they’re meant to be rock sliders, that sudden step *in toward the vehicle* just before the rear wheel will create some situations where the truck slides along the rock and then suddenly the rear panel is slammed up against the rock (and...

In the sense that they’ll create less wind resistance, yeah a bit. I like them. They’ll be a bear to clean when you’re home from the trail. And if you’re not thorough in cleaning, they’ll create a shimmy at various speeds. But since the covers will be removable, it should help with cleaning.

I love those wheels. I would really love it if the Scout’s wheels are hub centered with a lug pattern of 6x135 with an 87.1 mm hub bore.

It’s pretty... But in my hands, it would be clean as I drove it home and then would be caked with mud the first weekend and never, ever be clean again. Those kinds of nooks and crannies designs never hold up to my use.

And for the V6 and the supercharged engines. Honestly, too many options.

    Harvester towing

Yep! Note that you can get different axles/suspension in the gassy truck, which means you can get another bump up in towing capability. And, of course, you can order the tow/haul package, which provides the bigger alternator, bigger radiator, etc...

    Harvester towing

Scout’s engineers probably told management that, “if our calculations are correct,” 5000 pounds is the lowest towing capacity you should expect. That number then stuck with management. There’s been a similar discussion among some Lightning owners. The maximum tow capacity of the Lightning is...

As far as I have been able find, the Mustang hasn't had any of those deals recently. At least not in the past couple of months. I've been trying to help friends and family find good EV deals and have dropped the Mustang from my list because of the lack of incentives.

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

We needed to make sure all of the Arecibo data were properly archived. That took more time than could be spent on site. While bringing the data racks back, it made sense to also bring other hardware back for proper NSF disposal procedures. NSF had no interest in most of the hardware because it...

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

But I haven’t built or calibrated anything that required an oscilloscope since college, so it would just have been another piece of equipment that would have to be disposed of sometime down the road.

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

One of the items that made me consider going down was a custom-made oscilloscope. At the time it was made, it outperformed all other oscilloscopes on the market. These days it wouldn’t compare with a readily-accessible and affordable ‘scope.

That would be so dang dangerous for me. One of my former offices recently had several racks of equipment rescued from the Arecibo Telescope. Much of it hand-made. Fortunately it was a 10-hour round trip for me to pick it up so I couldn’t get to it before they recycled it.
