  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

Not sure if you are referring to Scout or Buzz. My frustration is not fair. Much of my anticipation was based on guesses from outsiders rather than stated VW target goals. But that was the early data available, so that is what I had hoped for. They missed the timeline (US version had a...

Would be a real shame if Jamie dropped a reveal date......

One EV I was interested in, the company put a countdown timer on their website for a month or 2. Given it was a startup company, thought it would be for limited production (they had a couple test vehicles already built, and indicated they had several in service). Nope, just a different body...

What does the base model look like to you?

I think the best guess would be look at 1/2 ton pickups. True base is work truck models, but only a limited number of those are actually sold to consumers. Vinyl seats, and flooring. AC, cruise control, basic stereo, steel wheels... Consumer vehicles generally have one step up with carpeted...

What feature(s) do you hope that Scout does NOT include?

Not exactly a feature, but just read where VW was requiring a subscription on some models to "unlock" boost mode on some ID3's. Subscriptions to unhobble existing features - that would really help sales... Most reddit posts are - will never buy another VW.

How would you build your Scout?

Honestly, no clues till options are presented. Not sure if Scout is going to do a Founders Edition or a Heritage Edition. Then will need to see how I feel - do I want something that will be visibly distinctive from general production or not. That said have a Traveler EV, would prefer a hard...

What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

I hope they don't - but at least to me, VW did that with the Buzz.

    Harvester towing

I kind of always assumed that most if not all EV's used controllers which were essentially VRD's. They are kind of necessary for dealing with variable speed brushless motors. Brushed motors vary speed based on voltage, but the brushes also create a frequency that varies directly with that...

    Battery Life Cycle

Well, a flatbed Scout with a electric golf cart or motorcycle might look pretty good.

What one thing would you like to see changed from concept to production?

Honestly, more afraid of changes - too often concepts and production are barely recognizable.

    Bigger Cup Holders

I really just need to get annoyed enough. I am no designer, but even the simplest of cad software could design an insert in a few minutes. I would need to measure the outside dimensions, and figure out the cone angles for the cup. Make a cylinder for the first and subtract the cone. I have...

    Accelleration

Fastest I have done is 3.2 (motorcycle). I don't think I have driven a car with a 0-60 under 7 seconds - but that used to be fast. At least it is not like my gen 1 Tacoma - which is eventually (13+ seconds, unless a hill is involved). Only thing worse I have ever had was a bug - I don't think...

5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

No hard reason was release for the why. We guessed a lot, but that is about it. Scout responded that specs were still subject to change.

Has Scout mentioned anything about battery thermal management?

Perhaps it has been discussed, and I have already forgotten. I know a lot of users are worried about cold weather performance. I am more worried about hot weather degradation. Older internet articles mentioned that 5 days over 90 a year could prematurely age a battery. Now more talk about...

    Great little vehicle

I liked the Element, but at first I could not get around the plastic panels - by the time they changed that I needed more than seating for 4.

[Terra] Double cab with a 6.5' bed

I doubt there would be a ton of re-engineering with the BEV - especially if we were willing to give up a bit of departure angle (and perhaps tongue weight). The EREV with the harvester might be a bigger problem, moving the motor would change the balance more. But with the BEV, add 6" of frame...

Ford model T moment vs Scout motors

I think Ford has also sent Rivian a bunch of money - so good chance it will have a Rivian based platform in 2027 - the same time Scout and VW are releasing Rivian based platform vehicles. Googled, Ford invested 500m for Rivians battery platform, VW invested about 10x that for EV electrical and...

    Battery Type

It is not so much better or worse quality-just different characteristics that might lend themselves to different uses. NMC tend to have more energy density and have higher rates of charge, at the expense of cost, overall life, and high % charge life, and being more flammable. LFP tends to have...

What goodies have you gotten from a dealer/manufacturer after purchasing a car

A few vehicles have come with items. My experience with dealers after the sale has been rather negative. Even when items were negotiated with the sale, those negotiations were thrown out the window after initial delivery - or I declined after the price of them tripled. The best I managed was...

    Must haves to purchase…

Official reason nobody will work on my VW is there is apparently a fear (based on word of mouth with other repair shops) that connecting their diagnostic computer to the VW might fried their diagnostic computers. I have no clue if that ever happened, or when it might have happened - but nobody...
