  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

I completely understand what the paddles do. I am trying to figure out why they are useful. In the OPD mode, you can always have as much or as little regen as you want just based on where your left foot is. You want more? Lift off more. You want less? Lift off less. There is NO need for...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

Can you explain how they're useful? I have never used them and I am seriously curious. To me it seems like it would add a ton of time lag and require way more thinking on the part of the driver. With paddles: You are driving down the road and realize that you are closing on a car in front of...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

Agree wholeheartedly. I love the way that Tesla (and Volvo) has implemented this. Regen is solely controlled by the right pedal, friction brakes are solely controlled by the left pedal. Elegant in its simplicity. Tesla does have an optional setting to blend friction brakes when the battery...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Please do not implement this. Paddles are a gimmick. 15-year EV driver here (Tesla and Volvo) and I have NEVER wanted or needed a mechanical way to adjust regen on the fly. The ONLY thing you need to modulate regen is your left foot. Want max regen? Lift your foot all...

Don't know how they are today but I bought a TJ brand new in '97 and it was perfect. The only thing I had to do was change fluids and put in a clutch (I abused it by driving around San Francisco, towing my motorcycle trailer, and driving on the Rubicon and other trails with poor technique so I...

It's been a wild ride for sure (15 years and counting now). The thing I keep in mind is that it's not malicious. Elon truly believes that Teslas will drive themselves any day now so why spend money on things like steering column stalks and other driver controls? He also has no filter so he...

Thanks for sharing! My daughter is 11 so a used one of these could be perfect for her.

Yep, Tesla's lying continues. I still have not received some of the features in the Model S that Elon literally promised to my face back in 2012. While I am addicted to the power of my MXP, it is definitely time to move on.

Agreed. People get all fired up about super fast charging but the grid is not built to handle megawatt swings in demand hundreds of times per day. The only way to achieve this would be to have large battery packs at the charging site that could dump power quickly and then slowly recharge from...

    solid state battery option

Yeah, this would be a huge distraction for SM. Best to use standard battery tech so they can focus on everything else. Once they are established they can start experimenting with new battery tech. As an aside, has SM talked about the battery at all? Format, Chemistry, etc?

One feature that made you pull the the trigger on a reservation….

This is it for me too. I think they hit the right balance of digital and analog, virtual and physical. I've been driving Teslas since 2010 and do not like the direction they are headed. I started with the Roadster which was fully analog (based on Lotus Elise), then Model S, another Model S...

You are welcome. It looks like Idaho National Labratory has taken the torch from Oak Ridge. https://inl.gov/feature-story/how-molten-salt-could-be-the-lifeblood-of-tomorrows-nuclear-energy/ Also, private industry is working on it. There are several molten salt startups (MicroNuclear, Kairos...

It was Carter that killed reprocessing by Executive Order. Reagan reversed it on day 1 but no one will invest in the facilities if it can be rendered worthless at the stroke of a pen. I like a lot of what Carter did but as a nuke engineer in the Navy, he did not believe that civilians could...

Oak Ridge had a molten salt reactor running back in the late 60s. Nixon killed it by giving the funding to his SoCal buddies (he was from there). The beauty of molten salt is that it cannot melt down. The temps never exceed the melting point of concrete nor the boiling point of the salt. The...

So just to follow up on this - you shouldn't compare L3 (DC fast charging) with L2 (AC slow charging) at home. It will be much cheaper to charge at home and nearly all of your charging will be done there (unless you live in an apartment or someplace that does not have power where you park...

Interesting article about the engineering underneath the new Scouts

The problem with this is the battery pack takes up the entire belly between the wheels so that spot where a center diff would go is full of batteries. You could potentially split the pack but that complicates wiring and serviceability. This is likely why everyone so far has gone with...

    Slate Truck Methodology

While the legacy Scout fan base is loyal as you said, it is tiny - much too tiny to support an entirely new company. We can debate whether the manufacturers or the customers created the current market but the fact is that Scout is building trucks for the largest piece of the market. They must...

    Keep it Simple - Please

Unfortunately, a lot of tech stuff is mandated these days. Backup cameras, advanced airbags, etc. Also, most of this stuff adds almost no cost, like a radio, cruise control, etc. Not to mention, more options is more cost. For example, having to design multiple interiors with speakers and...

    Flat Tow?

So I am talking without any authoritative knowledge about Scout, but I have been around EVs for the past 15 years. My understanding is that Permanent Magnet Motors (which Google says Scout will use) cannot be towed when powered down except at very slow speeds (ie to pull onto a flatbed for...

All EV/BEV needs its own name!

THIS. The default is BEV. Terra and Traveler alone mean BEV. Harvester is a trim package that adds an ICE and would be called Terra Harvester and Traveler Harvester.
