  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Scout Motors Needs to Rethink “Local” Service. Don't do the Tesla model.

So my question is, what do you suggest instead? Opening thousands of service centers staffed with techs that mostly sit around? The company would be bankrupt in 6 months. You need a critical mass of customers in an area in order to justify the ongoing costs of a service center. Until then...

Scout Motors Needs to Rethink “Local” Service. Don't do the Tesla model.

As a Tesla customer since 2010, I can offer some commentary on how I expect things to go, what it is reasonable, etc. I have no actual insight and so Scout may pull a rabbit out of a hat but here it goes. Service Centers will be a slow and steady build-out as the customer base expands and hits...

    E-brake

In the Tesla there is an electric motor that closes the rear friction caliper (Telsa's are all disc brakes). In the event of an emergency, you press and hold the park button and it will engage the ebrake.

From a Tesla and Lightning Owner: Here’s What I Need to See from Scout

So I have a question about the adaptive high beams. It's definitely cool tech but the videos always show it in the country. How does it work in a city? Can it spot a pedestrian/bicyclist and not blind them? I'm specifically concerned with Audi's laser-based headlights - how can they be sure...

Wow that is huge news. I had assumed they would go with ZF.

Slate truck/SUV flat tow confirmed by Slate

In the old days of AC Asynch motors (what Tesla started with), it was not a problem. Those motors were pure electromagnets so if the car was not "On," no magnetic field was generated and the motor would simply freewheel. However, most have moved to permanent magnet motors. These motors are...

    Longer Range battery option

While costs are improving at a pretty steady pace, density is not following. The reason that the CyberTruck missed its range estimates by a country mile was that the density improvements did not arrive. Tesla delayed it as long as they felt that they could and then shipped a crippled version...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I appreciate the background. I meant in the accidental sense in which you would have to call a locksmith to retrieve your keys (or pry the window out just enough so you can fish around with a coat hanger. I never owned a vehicle with such a capability. I went from a Jeep TJ (manual...

    Audio System Brand Poll 2.0

Yeah, I don't care. I am not an audiophile. I mostly listen to podcasts while driving :geek: I will make a general note that I would like HD FM radio and that AM radio does not exist in any EVs that I am aware of. Too much interference from the other electrical systems. IIRC Tesla had it...

So I have not watched the video, but will chime in my my $0.02 based on 15 years of Tesla ownership (plus a 6-month dalliance with a Volvo XC40 EV). I can only speak to the S, X, and Roadster - I have never owned a 3 or Y (but have driven them as service loaners). The model S has retracting...

Top Must Features: Auto brake hold, rain sensing windshield wipers, Regen shifter and one petal Regen, roof bars agility, and wireless carplay

Nah, it's much simpler than that. The car will just hold the friction brakes for you when you are at a stop. You regen down to a stop, car seamlessly engages the friction brakes giving you a limo stop every time. You then sit with both feet on the floor while you wait for the light to change...

    Intuitive D/B Mode Switching - A Must-Have for Scout!

I have driven Teslas since 2010. In the early days they had the option of light vs strong regen and creep (car would creep forward when you let your foot off of the brake, like an auto transmission ICE) vs not creeping. I do not recall a way to turn off regen completely plus you could not...

I for one am a huge fan of Torx screws/bolts. Never stripped one in my life compared to untold numbers of Phillips and even some flatheads. I bet they are also easier for robots to use.

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

I do that as well. But even on a city street one would hold a speed (35mph or whatever) for some amount of time. Holding a speed is a basic tenet of driving. Where are these places where one coasts for long periods?

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

I'm really not trying to be beligerent and I am fine with OPD + paddles as long as they are not Ferrari-sized.... But since we have 2.5 years before we get our Scouts we have nothing else to do but argue online :giggle: From the discussion on these threads it sounds like a lot of people treat...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

A driver can make people seasick by surging whether it's an EV or ICE, OPD or not. Bad technique is bad technique. There is an adjustment period to having regen on the accelerator but it is measured in minutes or hours. I don't understand everyone's obsession with "coasting". One should...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

How is this different from OPD? The amount of regen is simply controlled by the position of your right foot.

    Intuitive D/B Mode Switching - A Must-Have for Scout!

Here we go again. This is needless complexity to emulate a stick shift ICE vehicle that has no use/place in an EV. Please have all regen on the accelerator. I don't want to be fumbling with 26 different hand controls to adjust my speed. Put motor control on the right pedal and brake control...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

Ok, let's take a step back here. We have 2 mechanisms for accelerating or decelerating the vehicle: 1) motor/drivetrain can operate from 100% acceleration (full power) to 100% deceleration (full regen). 2) friction brakes can operate from 0% (not engaged) to 100% engaged (full braking). In...
