A 1976 Scout II named Peer Pressure
Tell us about your Scout:
This is my second Scout. it's titled as a 1976 but it's actually a 1975 body (date-coded with paint) on a 1979 frame/axle/engine combination (dated by VIN on the frame). I bought it at an auto auction with some persuasion from my friends (hence the name they gave it). it's a 345/T-19W with a bunch of factory-original California smog equipment still installed.
It came to me in this color combination with the lift already installed, a soft top, and a new set of Mud-Terrains. In the last 15 years I've stripped and bedlined the inside of the tub, added hydroboost for the brakes, swapped in PT Cruiser seats to replace the janky aftermarket seats it came with, installed shoulder belts, a poly gas tank, welded and installed my own rear bumper, added caster shims, and countless other small upgrades.
It's been out and back to Nationals and once to Harvester Homecoming five times so far, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it further. It'll do 70mph on the highway with two-finger steering. I'll probably never paint it even though I don't really like the color, because I don't want to take it off the road for long.
I've also got a 1963 IH Travelall in the driveway that I'm bringing back to life, after being abandoned in a yard for six years.
