1967 International Harvester Scout 800 survivor.
Tell us about your Scout:
After two years of searching for the right one, I found this original paint, low mileage '67 Scout 800 2500 miles away in Yuma, Arizona. Manufactured in Ft. Wayne, Indiana this 800 was transported by rail to Phoenix, Arizona where it was sold by Ellsworth Motors in Globe, Arizona. It lived it's first 58 years in the Sonoran Desert until I transported it to my home in Maryland. Why did it take so long to find it? I wanted a true survivor that had all the original metal in solid condition. I am now in the process of cleaning and protecting the paint and body so it can be preserved for the next generation of Scout lovers in my family. Once the patina is safe I will make some interior, drivability and safety upgrades that honor the the tradition and ensure its a fun, cool, safe and old school driver. Why an 800? I have great memories of adventures in my Grand Dad's Scout 80 and 800's. Scouts were the perfect vehicle for trekking the hollers of southern West Virginia for fishing trips, camping, exploring and four-wheeling the slag fields of the Olga Coal Company. My Dad was also an owner of Scout 2's. In a way, my Scout 800 is way to honor the memories made with my Dad and Grand Dad and share my restoration with my son who will inherit this one. I have named my 800 'Jawbone' which was my Dad's CB handle back in the day.
