How would you build your Scout?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
I’ve got a Baltimore -> Rockies move coming next year with just two cats…I thought the 11 hours up here from Georgia was rough, I feel for you!
My mistake was not getting kitty sleeping pills. Our plan was to alternate drivers however the orange cat, Chief, spoiled that plan. He yowled for 12 hours straight till he lost his voice. We tried out of the crate, in the crate, took him out on a leash at a rest stop at midnight. Didn’t matter. I told my husband never again.

Mine both got quiet after an hour or so, but had to be out of their crates otherwise it was non-stop.

Next time? DRUGS

Driving for 10 hours straight anywhere (in any vehicle) sounds like my definition of hell on earth...

But then I do have a hard time sitting still for any length of time let alone for 750 miles. I'm pretty happy that EV truck ownership has allowed me to be a bit more "chill" on longer road trips and I tend to enjoy the stop-charge-stretch-eat type routine that I have gotten into over the last few years. I also arrive felling much more refreshed this way, which I consider to be a big benefit.
I'm very glad you enjoy it. I'm about to be 66 and have been wanting to take a second night to travel, 3 days, when driving to a coast. I have a sister on Cape Cod and my daughter near the Pacific in WA. I WANT to slow down and BEV would force the issue. But I'm too 'driven'...I can't seem to stop. Always in a hurry to come home to visit the grandpunks, 4, 5, 8, and 11. They grow sooooo fast. My wife hates to miss a day never mind 2 weeks.

Probably also better for our health to stop and take care of ourselves.

Does the towing capacity change when you have to add an extension to get past the tire carrier?

Just throwing this out there…

I have had one of these hitches with a 10” drop for a long time.

The receiver on the 4X4 Labs high clearance rear bumper on my 1999 Land Cruiser was WAY up there and I needed to haul shingles and roofing materials to job sites with dual axle enclosed trailers.

I got one of these and have used the heck out of it.

They can handle 10,00lbs+ with a 2” receiver.

If you plan to run 35”s+ this might be necessary unless you can tow in a lower suspension mode with the optional air struts.

Edit: Found some photos of it after getting rear ended by a goober in a Ram.

It took the brunt of the impact since it sits up so high, and that hitch is so tough it ripped through the receiver in the steel bumper.

That’s a great build. That could be my third choice build

There are many threads about colors and features and interiors and exteriors. I thought it might be fun to have one place to talk about how we would build our Scouts. At some point Scout is going to send us an email that says the time has come. You can build and order your Scouts. We have no idea what they are going to offer but we can dream.

At the moment I have two ideas:

Traveler
Yellow
Dark grey roof
Bead lock wheels - dark grey
Colored brake calipers - blue
Tow hooks same blue color as the brake calipers
35 inch tires
Two tone dark grey/light grey vegan leather interior
Wood grain interior trim pieces in a grey/blue color
Dark carpet with Rubber floor mats
Glass roof
Rock slider/step

Or

Traveler
Yellow
Light roof
Light grey/chrome bead lock wheels
Colored brake calipers - red
Tow hooks the same red as the brake calipers
35 inch tires
Saddle leather interior - dark brown/lighter brown two tone
Hemp wood natural color trim
Dark carpet with rubber floor mats
Glass roof
Rock slider/step

The three features I am totally unsure of are the bench seat, Rallye stripes and to Harvester or not to Harvester that is the question.

I do not off road so I didn’t include things like air suspension and brush guards and winches or things required for towing. And I don’t want the roof rack with lights.

How would you build your Scouts??
Okay now that I have seen them in person, I decided to revisit my thought experiment and see what’s changed.

Traveler for sure. I am not a truck person.

Yellow, but it has to be the right yellow. There were quite a few yellow vintage Scouts there that day and it’s amazing how different the color can be from yellow to yellow. No highlighter yellow, no orangey yellow.

I really like the charcoal grey roof that’s on the Traveler. Having seen the transition from body color to roof color with that dark windows and the black molding piece, at this point I prefer the dark charcoal.

I really like the wheels on the green concept that was posted a while ago. Of the three designs I have seen so far that one is my favorite.

I am not sure now if I want colored brake calipers. I’m hoping at some point they show some color options. I would like to see red, orange and blue brake calipers.

Same for the tow hooks. Would like to see different color options. Red, orange and blue tow hooks.

35s. I know, I know, range but I have always wanted them.

That tan/grey interior in the Traveler is beautiful. Just like that. It’s the prettiest tan I have ever seen in a car and I have had multiple vehicles with tan interior.

I really liked the doors in the traveler with that fabric. I don’t know how it will hold up versus the hemp but I preferred that over the hemp.

Dark flooring with rubber floor mats. SM please don’t make tan flooring. Had that in a few cars. Gets too dirty.

Glass roof for sure.

Rock sliders. Saw some vintage this weekend with a big step. No thanks. Not my cup of tea.

After seeing the bench seat and the regular bucket seats, I’m buckets all the way. Love that console in the middle. Definitely want that.

Loved the Rallye stripes. I’m 95% sure I want those.

After seeing the roof rack I’m sure I don’t want that. Don’t want to worry about height and I want the glass roof to be a completely unobstructed view of the sky.

I do like the brush guard on the bumper but I would need to see it in person. I don’t really need it and if it gets in the way of getting to the frunk then I would not get one.

Have to do my research on air suspension. Not sure on that yet.

And the big question still is to harvester or not to harvester. My husband is 100% harvester and all these articles lately about how EREVs are the new thing aren’t helping.

Okay this is where I am as of now. It will be interesting to see what we all change or stick with after we all get to see them in person.

Again, if they are anywhere even remotely close to you, go see them. You won’t regret it!!

I agree with seeing them if they are within 4 hours of driving. In person is a game changer

I am still very much looking forward to what the bench seat center console looks like when its folded down. The non-bench console looks fantastic but the bench in the Terra concept is static and cant be moved.

Jamie had said they are still working on it. Maybe we will see it when they refresh the paint colors later this year.

Thanks! What are choices 1 & 2? I may amend mine . . .
Answered this awhile ago so trying to remember. Basically your build but with butter yellow and white roof 35’s and I think I’m gonna gamble the cabana roof. Otherwise identical. Second is same but a non metallic lagoon blue/green with white or gun metal gray roof. I absolutely love the Tahitian red but suspect everyone will be going that way. My first Scout was butter yellow tone so the nostalgia of it. I also think I’d like the tinted Ralleye strip but curious how it would look on butter yellow
