Any chance on flat four?

  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.
Very little info. It seems Navistar makes engines there. I'm not sure what else.
What very little I could find is they make Navistar truck engines there and no small 4 cyl engines, so whatever the 4 cylinder engine is, it is probably going to have to be made in the SC factory. While doing a quick search I do not think VW makes any engines for passenger vehicles in the US, I only saw in Mexico and in Europe, which both locations are likely going to be an issue depending on possible tariffs so the safest thing is to have the engines built in the US, though they can still be a engine design that already exists just it would have to be made in the US to avoid issues.

It costs a lot to set up an engine plant (not to mention labor costs and environmental regs). It's easier to just pay the tariffs and import them from Mexico

Not sure on that if it gets upped to a possible 50% tariff, I saw that floating around as a possibility.

Interesting that Navistar is now International Motors and according to Wikipedia is the successor to the international harvester manufacturing company….

Answering my own question…all diesel engines, 6 cylinders—so unless something new (yet to be announced) engine was in the works then unlikely. I was impressed with the technology of these engines though so perhaps an “upgrade” in the future. Also got me thinking about erevs for the large equipment/shipping industry.

The only company that i know of that does EREVs in heavy equipment like Semi-trucks would be EDISON Motors in B.C. Canada

Nice to know about Edison. The engines they are producing would fit nicely into heavy equipment erevs. The s13 specifically which currently has an integrated transmission. Its smaller then most v6s quiet and lighter…a erev dream. Also is more efficient with consistent HP at low rpms. With it being the VW group it makes me wonder if Scout will be the proof of concept for light duty/personal use, work out the engineer quirks and potentially expand via International Motors for heavy duty/industrial uses. Just a thought and connecting some dots (whether those connections exist or not we may never know!)
