  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Scout concepts on Jay Leno’s Garage

As Scott Keogh mentioned, there will likely be three settings for the Harvester generator. Perhaps one mode for normal short-trip driving, where Harvester only kicks in when the battery is depleted to a certain low point. A second mode could proactively charge while driving (or when...

Scout concepts on Jay Leno’s Garage

Towing capacity is affected by many things. Tow vehicle weight, center of gravity, wheelbase, axles, springs, brakes, etc. A certain percentage of the trailer weight also must be applied to the hitch for stability. I suspect that the Harvester (or battery) weight cantilevered over the rear is...

    Comparing preorders to Bronco sales

Remember that the original Scout annual production averaged around 30k.

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

I am curious how much vertical space is needed to package the Harvester engine behind the rear axle (including with the spare for the Terra). With that Magna solid rear eBeam axle - including it's fat motor, the suspension travel will require a relatively high interior floor. From the pics on...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I believe the Harvester engine/generator is replacing the rear-most battery pack so weight and balance should be very close between the two.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Packaging the engine/generator, radiator and exhaust behind the rear axle and in a low-profile layout is still a challenge. Not to mention protecting it with a skid-plate and having access for maintenance (oil changes, coolant, etc). Another plus: In cold conditions the engine coolant can...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I anticipate that the engine will be mounted with the cylinders low and horizontal, perhaps in a boxer layout. Glad to hear it will be quiet - I wouldn't want to think an air-cooled Bug was tailgating!

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

No doubt there will be trip settings with the Harvester controls. Remember, batteries are simply a reservoir and you, on average, only need about 20-30 hp to overcome 70mph wind resistance and friction on a level grade. Harvester will need to know your trip length, average speed and the change...

    CLOSED! Audio System Brand Poll

I really liked the OEM Motorola AM that was in our 64 Scout 80. It even had the Civil Defense frequencies marked on the dial!

    Ideas for Harvester

While the Harvester range extender is intriguing (and I get the appeal), the EV-only Scout will be imminently more practical for most. Charging stations will be nearly everywhere by 2027. With our Tesla, (super)charging is fast and easy. No added packaging constraints, extra weight, oil...

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

I wonder how many $100 reservations have been made. Placing a counter on the website would be great!

    1964 Scout 80

My Father bought this Scout from a very good friend who became an IH truck dealer in Lexington Virginia. Originally delivered to Richmond International Trucks, it was repainted at least 3 times (6456 Vegas Blue from the factory - then tan for the quarry business; then red-white & blue; then...

The Traveler wheelbase has surpassed the last Travelall! (120.4" vs 119")

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

The prototypes shown yesterday are awesome! A few thoughts: 1. The retractable Cabana top or glass top roof is a solid choice vs a removable top. A removable top done right, with frameless door glass, would require an extensive roll cage separate structure similar to the Bronco/Wrangler that...
