  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

The base (not towing) case is a 30.3 kW draw at 70 mph, 41.2 hp, which seems like a pretty modest load. The towing case is 60.6 kW (82.4 hp) at 70 mph, 56.3 (76.5) at 65, and 52 (70.7) at 60. Adding in losses I have no idea how that translates into a real ICE and what kind of peak performance...

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

But the majority of those 350 miles will be at the much lower loads, not at peak.

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

I think you're too skeptical for the base case and overly pessimistic in the towing case. I agree that steep grades will probably draw from the battery too. (Personally I would say "almost certainly" for grades.) 150 miles at 70 mph is 2.14 hours. Using 65 kWh in 2.14 hours is a steady draw of...

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

Yes, here are quotes from the Jay Leno interview saying that. Keep in mind this is probably steady state on reasonably flat ground, you should expect to also draw some from the battery going uphill and hopefully the Harvester will be big enough to restore some charge on the level or slow down...

    Tow range

It might not take as large an engine and generator as you think. This is all speculation based on limited information of course. Yep, it will be great when we get real numbers from testing. In the Motor Trend interview Scott Keogh said the Harvester battery will be about 60 to 70-ish kWh, let’s...

    Tow range

Welcome! Our take would be to stop a little more often to avoid the complication. Try to start with a full battery, driving in a mode where the battery stays above say 30%. It is not clear how much granularity Scout will provide on that. Once the Harvester starts being used to maintain the...

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

Not knowing any facts about how the drive units feed regen power I have been assuming the Harvester would use the same path. Does that not actually work because of inherent electrical differences?

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

An infotainment screen display when charging that shows the charging curve adjusted for the current charger performance with the time to add miles of travel adjusted for recent use, i.e adapting for my specific less efficiency when towing, etc.

Scout Traveler SUV Green Off-Road Concept

Mine too. I have heard that some tow and roadside assistance operators now carry a small battery just like they carry a gas can.

    Harvester towing

I think the drama in this case is mostly warranted. It seems like most of the commenters are saying they would have been interested in the Terra Harvester but not if it can only tow 5000 lbs. Maybe SM has a good reason for that and are willing to forego those sales. I agree that saying the...

    Harvester towing

WOW, thanks! I’ll have to save and study this some more. And I’ll forgive you for not pointing out the 1066 meters is at STP. (;)) Folks in Colorado will get a bit more distance in summer. Now I’ll have to look up air density with temperature and with elevation to see where winter in Colorado falls.

    Harvester towing

My favorite undergrad course was differential equations. A lot of interesting real world questions can be easily solved with them.

    Harvester towing

I was trying to consider total energy consumption over a significant drive, say at least 50 miles. The expenditure for drag is constant over the whole distance, linear with distance and squared with speed. The expenditure for K.E. is just to get up to speed, amortized over the whole distance...

    Harvester towing

I need a brief physics lesson please. I know drag increases as the square of velocity. At a steady speed on level ground there is no increase in kinetic or potential energy, so where does the extra velocity multiple come in?

    Harvester towing

I was going to make the same comment then thought about you doing 80. The U-Haul and cargo look pretty low profile, but the drag is 78% worse at 80 than at 60. I have no idea how the U-Haul at 80 compares to a travel trailer at 60.
